The Edgartown Free Public library will begin moving the nearly 40,000 items in its collection from its current North Water Street location to the new building on Robinson Way, adjacent to the Edgartown School, after a short ceremony next Saturday.
The library will be closed for approximately three weeks while the collection is transferred, beginning at 5 pm on Friday, March 4, according to a press release. A small ceremony in front of the Carnegie building will mark the beginning of the move on Saturday, March 5 at 10 am. After the ceremony, library officials will host a walk to the new building, where refreshments will be served.
“The ceremony at the North Water Street site is a moment to celebrate its 112 years of history serving Edgartown,” library officials said in a press release.
A free shuttle will pick up people who want to leave their vehicles at the Edgartown School parking lot, 15 minutes prior to Saturday’s ceremony.
An opening date for the the new Edgartown library, will be posted on the library’s website and Facebook page.
Late fines on materials due during the closure will be forgiven after the new library opens.
The rain date for Saturday’s event is at 1 pm on Sunday, March 6.
